How to Dress on Your Graduation Day

Congratulations, you’re graduating! A graduation ceremony is one of the most special occasions in a person’s life, marking the start of a new chapter while celebrating the achievements that led to that point.  Not only will you be in front of hundreds of classmates, family, friends, and faculty, but you will be snapped in countless pictures that will be looked back on for years to come.  That being said, it is extremely important to look your best so that you make a good impression and leave no regrets in the future. Check out some of our tips of what to wear on your graduation day below!

Great graduation party dresses
When looking for what to wear under your gown, remember that being conservative is key. Your graduation is not the place for short dresses, plunging necklines, and stilettos, so try to save them for celebrations being held later in the night. Of course, this doesn’t mean you have to compromise being stylish and trendy. Try to find a happy medium between the two and choose a sophisticated dress for graduation that exemplifies professionalism, while also expressing your individual personality and sense of style. Also, since graduation ceremonies are typically held in the springtime, you should opt for a light, sleeveless dress. Those graduation gowns can get pretty toasty, so being prepared with a lightweight garment underneath can help you keep your cool throughout the day.

Being comfortable on your graduation day is an absolute must; you will be spending most of it standing, walking, and posing.  The last thing you need is a pair of shoes that don’t fit properly or are too high. While dressy sandals and ballet flats are a reliable option, why not turn it up a notch with a comfortable wedge. Adding a little lift to your look with help dress up your graduation gown and give you better posture in pictures. Your shoes are the only things not being covered up, so make them worth the attention! If you are ever stumped on what shoe to wear, just remember to stick to the three C’s: classy, cute, and comfortable.

For ceremonies being held outdoors, you’re most essential accessory is a pair of sunglasses. Choose a pair that is classic and simple, and don’t forget to take them off for pictures. Considering you’ll be wearing a oversized robe for a majority of the day, you should dress it up with some statement jewelry. Be sure to not go over board. Stick to one bold piece—either a chunky necklace, embellished earrings, or a stack of bracelets—and keep the rest of your jewelry simple. Match your dress too. Try to refrain from wearing anything that jingles when you move, as you will most likely be doing a lot of waving, hugging, and shaking hands all day.

Remember to keep fashion and trendy on your graduation day to be impressive. You will be stunning.

Choose Your Cocktail Dress for Special Party

For summer, holiday or graduation parties, cocktail party dresses are suitable. They are diverse in styles and appropriate for many occasions. You should prepare one in your wardrobe.

A cocktail dress code indicates that you're probably going to have a good time. Lacking the formality -- and occasional stuffiness -- of white and black tie affairs, cocktail-themed events allow you to interject your personality into your look. First, understand the basics about the cocktail dress code. Then, choose an appropriate outfit that allows you to accessorize, add some flair and showcase your personal style.

A little black dress is always a safe cocktail attire look.

Search the event invitation for clues into how you should dress:

Time of year -- Choose seasonal colors for your cocktail party attire. A fall or winter event may call for a dress in jewel-toned hues of amethyst purple or emerald green. A pastel tie is proper for a spring affair. Bright colors celebrate the summer season and are suitable for cocktail events at resorts.

Time of day -- Afternoon events are typically more informal than their evening counterparts. As a result, on the cocktail party spectrum of formality, an afternoon affair would call for more casual fabrics, such as cotton or linen, than an evening event, which may feature satin, silk and chiffon.

Anyhow, as long as you need a cocktail dress, you can have a huge selections online. Formal or informal, modern or vintage dresses are all available. To make it convenient, eDressit offers a new collection of fashion cute cocktail dresses. Choose one if you like.

How to Clean Your Formal Dress: Clean, Wash, Dry, Iron and Store

Hi, girls, you worn your evening dress and spent a memorable night or you had a fabulous time at your own wedding. Then you came home and problem came too: how to wash and store it.

Don't worry ladies. We will help you and guide you with step by step instructions and tips from inspecting, cleaning, washing, drying, ironing and storing your precious wedding gown and formal dress.

A. Inspection:
1. First thing first, check washing instructions on the fabric tag/label.
If it says 'dry clean only' then bring it to professional dry cleaner. Sometimes it may be better doing otherwise (save bill and read no. 3). If it doesn’t have instruction, then it’ll be a bit difficult. But no fear. We’ll help you tackle this.
2. Check what fabric is used to make the dress.
Silk, rayon, wool, chiffon, satin and acetate (use for making taffeta) are delicate and need special dry clean care. If the dress is made of polyester which most dresses are nowadays, hand washing and gentle wash cycle is acceptable.

If you have no idea of the fabric make, contact the shop where you bought the dress. Sometime asking experience seamstress and professional laundry service will help too as they have a fair share of knowledge in this field.

3. Check dress details.
If your dress has beading, sequins, lace, organza or tulle, careful spot cleaning or/and hand washing is the better option.

B. Cleaning:
Decide which cleaning method to use for the best outcome. Usually it’s a combination of spot cleaning with either hand washing or wash cycle.
Spot cleaning – For dresses with fragile embellishment such as beading, sequins, lace and delicate fabric. Also for dress with marks and dirt, you usually need to pre-treat the stains (hence spot cleaning).
Hand washing – For dresses with embellishment such as beading, sequins, lace. Fabric type can range from silk to polyester. As long as you take special care while washing.
Gentle wash cycle – For dresses with no or very minimal embellishment and made from polyester.

Spot cleaning
Never leave stains and dirt on dress for long period of time. Treat them as soon as possible to prevent them from setting into the fabric. The sooner you treat them, the easier the stains are removed.

1. Inspect dress for dirt and stains. Check dress exterior, interior, hem and train (if any).
2. Use mild stain remover to treat the stains.
3. Rub gently with fingers or soft sponge and let it sit for 30 minutes.
4. If the stains doesn’t come off, rub gently with undiluted liquid detergent (if you intend to wash the dress after that).
5. Problem with spot cleaning is it might leave undesirable ring/mark of the spotting agent. That is why it’s advisable to clean the dress completely after.
6. Even if the dress is labelled ‘No dryclean. No wetclean. Spot clean only’, you can with extra care hand wash the dress unless the dress is extremely fragile.

Hand washing
1. Fill sink/tub/basin with water. Do not use hot water as it will stress the fabric and sets most stains. Use cold water for blood, grease, dairy and grass stains. Use lukewarm water for fruit, fruit juice and mud stains.
2. Add very mild detergent or soap for the wash.
3. Submerge dress in the water. Leave it for 5 minutes.
4. Carefully scrub at the spot that you previously treated with your hand. For spot near or in between delicate area, use a soft toothbrush.
5. Drain the lukewarm water and fill with cold water.
6. Gently rinse the dress several times until no more soap is visible.

Gentle wash cycle
1. Zip the dress up to protect dress from zipper teeth and also to prevent zipper from damage. Remember to hook all hooks and eyes.
2. Undo buttons and ribbons and loosen corset back to prevent stressing the threads.
3. Turn dress inside out. This is to prevent wear and tear (although minimal) and to reduce colour fading during the wash.
4. Place dress in mesh laundry bag if you have one.
5. Finally put dress in the washer.
6. Use very mild detergent or soap for the wash.
7. Set cycle time to short unless the dress is very dirty.

C. Drying:
1. Never use a dryer for delicate or heavily embellished dress.
2. Air dry (drying by exposure to the air) is preferable for any formal dress and wedding gown with the dress remain inside out (if possible) for drying to prevent colour fade.
3. Do not wring the dress!
4. Dry dress under a shade or inside the house away from heat to preserve its original colour.
5. Hang the dress if it’s not too heavy.
6. Lay dress on flat surface to dry if dress is heavy. Reshape it if necessary. Reason for drying on flat surface is to prevent reshaping of the dress (weight of the water might pull down the dress if hanger is used)

D. Ironing:

1. Make sure the iron base and iron board cover is clean to avoid any mark on your dress.
2. Preferably use a clean white press cloth to make sure the iron isn’t leaving any marks at first.
3. For dress with ironing instruction, follow as stated. If not, start ironing with low temperature and gradually increase the temperature. If it starts to stick, lower the heat at once.
4. Steam iron is preferable.
5. Iron the dress very gently. Be careful when pressing near the embellishment.
7. For tulle, iron it at very low temperature with a pressing cloth and be extra cautious.

E. Storing:

1. Rest the dress for a few hours before storing.
2. Decide how you want to store the dress: In a plastic dress bag stuffed with acid-free tissue or in an acid-free box with stuffed acid-free tissue which the dress will be folded.
3. Store the dress in a cool dry place.
4. Change the acid-free tissue or/and acid-free box every 2-4 years.

We hope these tips will help you restore your beautiful wedding gown and formal dresses back to its glory days. For Paris Ciel customer, if you’re unsure of the dress material feel free to contact us anytime. :)

How to Find Your Dream Wedding Dress

Plan Before Shopping
It is time wasting if you just hang out and try to find out a wedding dress you like at the same time. You are told to plan at least what look you like, what style you prefer, traditional or modern? Then, look through websites, magazines for designs and patterns. This is the right begining for you. Also, you can create your own pinterest board to save the ideas that you like most so that you can easily access them. That's to say, take time to decide what you want before you start to look around. Besides, you will have to choose between traditional and contemporary designs, fabrics, styles and colors, to find the one that suits you.

Wedding Dress Shopping

Start as early as is possible, so you do not have to hasten your search for a bridal gown. Remember, your wedding dress is the most important piece of clothing you’ll need for the entire day, so it's important to take the time to find the one that suits you best. Set aside plenty of time for boutique appointments, trying on dresses, fittings, alterations, and the selection of accessories to complete your trousseau. If you have anything that must be incorporated into your wedding day attire, such as jewelry, hair accessories, shoes, family heirlooms, or vintage items, bring them with you to your fittings so that you can see how your dress looks when paired with these items. You may find that the shade of white of the dress you found does not go well with the shade of white of your shoes. By bringing any items you know you’ll want to wear on your big day to try on together, you’ll avoid being surprised and disappointed the day of.

Shopping for Wedding Dress
Before you shop, you should also determine the maximum amount you can afford to spend on your dress. Wedding dresses can range greatly in price, so if you tell the store associate what your budget is like she will be able to bring you dresses that fit your needs. This will ensure that you do not fall in love with a wedding gown that exceeds your budget.

Style, Fit and Color
A wedding dress should not only be suitable for the venue and weather, it should also flatter your figure and style. The lace wedding dress is popular for many occasions. Breezy lightweight fabrics are ideal for outdoor weddings and warm weather, while satin, velvet and layered wedding gowns work well in winter. You can always step up the drama by choosing a darker color or accessorizing with a stylish wrap or stole. One of the latest trends in wedding dresses is choosing a different color, such as light pink or blue. You don’t have to stick to tradition – find a dress that really speaks to you and shows off your personality.

Finding the Perfect Wedding Dress
While trying on bridal dresses, look for patterns that flatter your figure. Strapless gowns are a traditional favorite that suit most women, but it has to be tailored to match your proportions. If you are tall and slender, choose a wedding gown that fits you well and amplifies your curves to create the perfect silhouette. If you are short, avoid dresses with too many layers and heavy fabric as this can make you look shorter. For girls with full figures, tight fitting dresses, or those with corsets are ideal. If you are slender, consider dresses that emphasize your femininity by creating a mermaid silhouette.

Ask Your Friends
You will be dazzled after seeing diverse wedding dress styles, patterns. At this time, your friends' suggestions would be helpful. Sometimes, they know better what style suit you. Tell them why or why not you choose the wedding dress and listen to their opinions. Think and select finally according to all the info you know. I think you can do it well finally.

Your wedding is the beginning of a lifetime of love. A unique wedding dress will transform you into a beautiful bride. So, select the exact suitable wedding dress for your big day, and eDressit will help if you still have no ideals.
